Did you Know?
The Ambrosia apple was discovered as a chance seedling in Canada by Wilfrid and Sally Mennell. They noticed Ambrosia growing in their orchard of Jonagold trees and it is suspected that the parentage of Ambrosia is a cross between Jonagold and Golden Delicious (an orchard that was in that area previously). While the flavor is more in tune with Golden Delicious, the appearance favors the Jonathan (a parent apple of the Jonagold.) How’s that for creative genetics?! They are also very slow to brown, which make for perfect apple slices.
